This hybrid of music, visual arts, and poetry, with powerful yet open dramaturgy, places sound as its primary foundation. Sound in its many forms, which, of course, includes silence. Silence, as understood by John Cage, can often be the sound of traffic coming through the window. A poem can be (and is) sound. Words are sound with meaning. Music is highly organized sound. The boundaries between them are blurred, and this ambiguity is the heart of Shards of a World Begun.
We are Natacha M and Matías Spataro, creators of
Shards of a World Begun.
Both born in Buenos Aires, we each pursued
our respective disciplines: Matías as a drummer and percussionist,
later becoming a sound designer. Natacha as a singer, and later as
a composer, writer, and actress. Our artistic and personal paths
converged several years ago, forming a stable and fruitful creative
partnership. Since 2023, we have been presenting several versions of
this transdisciplinary performance we call Shards of a World Begun.
